Costume Warehouse Manager/Costume Rentals – The Studio, LLC
The Studio is looking for someone with an acute attention to detail to help organize our costume inventory.
The Studio is a fine arts company located in Rockford, Illinois. We work with kids ages 5-19 in a variety of areas (private music lessons, dance, sessions, camps, productions), and have amassed a sizable costume inventory from our 10 years of producing musicals.
Over the past few years, we’ve had interest from other theaters, schools, and groups to rent our costumes—and we see a huge potential in adding this facet to The Studio! Not only will it help us get organized, we’ll be in a position to be able to help other theater groups who might not have the inventory to pull off a show.
We’re looking for someone to oversee and maintain our costume inventory, catalog and organize it by type or by show, photograph it and upload it to an online gallery—all for the purpose of creating a Costume Rental arm of The Studio.
In addition, this position would handle all incoming rentals, including but not limited to: corresponding with potential renters, working with our Lead Costumer to pull all needed costumes, helping transport costumes to The Studio for fittings, boxing up and shipping costumes to renters, filling out invoices, and initializing and finalizing all rental contracts.
Job Title: Costume Warehouse Manager/Costume Rentals
Location: Rockford, IL
Salary/Rate: Starting at $16/hr., 20 hours per week
Responsibilities/Requirements:
In this position, you’ll be responsible for overseeing, organizing, cataloging, photographing, and maintaining The Studio’s costume inventory.
You will not be responsible for costuming current shows, nor creating costumes.
In addition, you’ll be responsible for all costume rentals, from first contact to delivery to collection and finally to re-organization. These will pick up once we have our own house in order ☺
The ideal candidate would be:
- Detailed.
We have thousands of costumes from 10 years of theatrical performances! Some are binned, labeled, hung, organized, and stored, but most aren’t. Everything, from an apron for Les Poisson to a tweed cap for Step in Time, will need to be cataloged and photographed. All costumes need to be accounted for, helping us be able to find what we need when we need it.
- Spreadsheet Savvy.
To keep everything organized, we’ll need a searchable list of costumes on software like Theatre Inventory, Airtable, or something similar. If we need a set of white satin wings to finish off the birds in the chorus of Jungle Book, we’ll need to be able to easily search and find those.
- Working Knowledge.
You’ll need to know which costumes are for James and the Giant Peach as opposed to Matilda. While years of experience are not necessary for this position, some affinity or knowledge of theater, musicals, and the arts is preferred.
You will not need experience creating costumes. No sewing experience is necessary.
- Personable.
Most of the position will be working in the Studio Costume Storage, but ultimately a good portion will be dealing with other theaters, groups, renters, and so on. You’ll need to be able to correspond with others, either over email, on the phone, or in person, in a timely, pleasant, and kind manner.
- Other Requirements.
– Ability to take, organize, and upload photos to a website gallery
– Ability to lift bins and storage containers, costume racks, garment bags (around 20-30 lbs. at the most)
– Ability to use stairs (our costumes are stored on an upper level)
- The Ideal Candidate
The perfect candidate for us here at The Studio is someone who is detailed, easy to get along with, able to take large quantities of like things and catalog them, and ultimately someone who doesn’t mind wire hangers.
We have a lot of those.
TO APPLY: Email your resume to adam@thestudiorockford.com.
We’d love to hear from you!
