The Studio Apprentice Program
Last year, we started a new program at The Studio – and we were thrilled by the response! We’re always looking for ways to get more kids involved, and more than that, get them involved in leadership. Get them behind the scenes. Get their hands dirty with all aspects of the arts.
That said, we’re ecstatic to announce another opportunity for those interested in the Studio Apprentice Program. This program is open to all Studio kids, age 15+, who have an itch to learn more about what it takes to put on a show, what it’s like to work with our younger kids, and just what kind of a village it takes to put on a show.
Below is a description of this position and what the expectations and responsibilities will be.
We’re excited, and we hope you are too!
-Adam, Courtney, Mariah, and the Frozen Kids Team
Description
As a Frozen Apprentice, you will be an essential part of making Frozen KIDS a memorable experience!
You’ll also have a hand in keeping the Directing Team sane 🙂
Each Apprentice will get a “team” of kids that they will specifically be helping during the show process. The Apprentice will be called when their team is called to rehearsal and will serve as “support staff” to the directing team and the kids.
It’s a great opportunity to invest in some Littles, make them feel special, and also learn more about the show process!
Expectations
• Kindness and patience galore. This age group has a ton of questions—as well as short attention spans. In addition, they are also ridiculously sweet and adorable! You will need to be able to speak and react with patience and kindness, even if you’re frustrated.
• Build relationships. Get to know your team of kids and the rest of the cast. Learn all of their names, create a secret handshake, play games, talk movies—kids this age love stories, so one way to enhance their experience is to allow yourself to become part of theirs! Be invested in the kids! You’re there to help them have the best experience possible!
• Stay positive. It’s easy to complain, and the kids probably will at some point, but as an Apprentice, your response and attitude will be a huge part of setting the tone of rehearsal. Set an example of positivity and encouragement. They will notice!
Responsibilities
• Keep track of your team’s formations for each musical number they are in. They will likely forget or get confused once we get to the theater. During tech, you can help them by reminding them of entrances, reviewing scenes, showing formations, or placing them in lines backstage so they’re all ready to go!
• Learn and know the choreography and entrances for each number your team is in. Know it well enough that you could perform it yourself and be able to take them to the other space and review material if the directing team asks you to!
• Sit with your team during rehearsal. Help keep them quiet during rehearsal and focused when it is their time to work. When we call a group over, help kindly herd them!
• Help field general theater questions. They’ll have a lot of them. Those you can answer, great! Those you can’t, find someone on the directing team and we’ll do our best to answer you or them.
• At the theater, keep track of your team. Help keep them on task when it comes to getting ready and getting to the middle section.
• If they have lines, we might ask you to run lines with them during down time so that they understand the flow of the scene. If they have specific acting questions, write them down or let the directing team know so that we can get back to them.
Final Thoughts
Overall, you’ll be the eyes, ears, voices, feet, and hands of this production. We want the kids to be looking to the Apprentices for answers and guidance—along with knowing that they’ll be looking up to some of the coolest kids The Studio has to offer.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, fill out the online form by clicking on Upcoming Productions under the Productions tab on our website. Scroll down, click the button to open the form, and you’re off!
We’ll pour over all of the applications, and ‘cast’ the Apprentices as soon as possible. We’ll plan an Apprentice Meeting so that we can connect, get on the same page, and answer any questions you may have prior to auditions on October 5th!
We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity again, and really believe it will help create incredible experiences for both you and the cast of Frozen KIDS!
